Color theory in equestrian fashion by Laurence

Color is something I feel before I choose it. 

Before I pick a shade, I like to understand the effect it creates. Is it calm? Warm? Strong? Soft? Timeless? That is how I have always worked with spaces, materials, and atmosphere, and in a small way, it also helped me shape the visual look of FOUR.

I have a little color book that I always come back to. I use it when I bring materials, fabrics, and tones together for my projects. It helps me see how colors connect with each other. A soft cream next to a warm brown. A touch of green or burgundy that suddenly makes everything feel more grounded.

When we started building FOUR, I looked at color in that same way. I did not want our colors to feel random. I wanted them to reflect how we wanted FOUR to be seen: inspiring, premium, and bold, but still natural and connected to the equestrian world. To me, it became a balance between the feeling of FOUR, the colors of the world around horses, and a little touch of each of us.

The Elegance of Neutrals and Color

Good neutrals are the base of almost every timeless wardrobe.

In the equestrian world, most people naturally reach for neutral colors. They are easy to combine, aren’t they? Black, navy, beige, cream, grey, and brown are easy to wear and always feel elegant. But neutrals are more than just practical. They let the shape, the fabric, and the details stand out.

Of course, color does not always have to be neutral. If one or two colors stand out, let the rest stay quiet. That is something I have learned from working with spaces too. A room feels strongest when not everything is asking for attention at once. Fashion works the same way, especially equestrian fashion.

At FOUR, we think a lot about balance. We love pieces that can do more than one thing: not too sporty, not too fashion, but somewhere perfectly in between. For us, it is about mixing a touch of color with elegant neutrals.

A Soft Statement

Style does not always have to be loud to be powerful.
It can be the right shade of brown, a perfect navy, or a soft cream. And sometimes, it is all of that combined with a color that makes you feel like yourself.

For me, that would always be a little touch of green.
